Symbolism is something Swift has always done quite well. Hoping it will end up in his pocket, but he leaves you out like a penny in the rain, oh, 'cause it's not his price to pay." (Tied Together With a Smile) "I guess it's true that love was all you wanted, 'cause you're giving it away like it's extra change. Get you a girl who can make you rock out and then sob two seconds later. Cold, sharp lyrics to convey the struggle of coping with detrimental loss. "You're not my homeland anymore, so what am I defending now?" (Exile) Oh, how quickly things can change and render our dreams useless. Love slipped beyond your reaches." (Champagne Problems) Swift poignantly depicts the dichotomy between feeling worthy of love and questioning that very right. "Who could ever leave me, darling, but who could stay?" (Archer) "Wasn't it beautiful running wild 'til you fell asleep, before the monsters caught up to you?" (Innocent) A truly accurate characterization of both the optimism and struggle of getting over someone. Both of these things can be true." (Happiness) "There'll be happiness after you, but there was happiness because of you. "If I'm dead to you why are you at the wake, cursing my name, wishing I stayed?" (My Tears Ricochet) It can be difficult to overcome the moment everything fell apart and we find ourselves replaying that pain over and over, rather than seeing the bigger picture and the light at the end of the tunnel. "I rewind thе tape but all it does is pause on thе very moment all was lost." (Evermore) Taylor Swift's music being held hostage in a gross power play. How Taylor Swift flipped online fandom on its head for the better.Taylor Swift on Disney Plus: Folklore and firelight will get you all up in your feelings.I think releasing two surprise albums in a year proves that.) (Swift seems to be doing just fine, though. It can be challenging to feel like you're not able to do what you need to get ahead and stay ahead. To me, these lyrics perfectly describe the restlessness of COVID-19 lockdowns. Fell behind all my classmates and I ended up here." (This is Me Trying) "I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere. In just a few words, it sums up the fallen dreams of doomed love. This is one of my all-time favorite lyrics. OK sorry, I couldn't help it - one more from All Too Well. "You tell me about your past thinking your future was me." (All Too Well) I could quote this entire song because it's a lyrical masterpiece. "You call me up again just to break me like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of being honest." (All Too Well) A poetic way of describing unforeseen heartbreak. "You can plan for a change in the weather and time, but I never planned on you changing your mind." (Last Kiss) This of course doesn't include every great line she's ever penned rather, these are lyrics I've often reflected on and discussed with fellow fans, and found deep personal meaning in. There’s this music inside my mind saying it’s going to be alright. So for all the applications submitted and the interviews that didn’t work out I’m just going to shake it off and keep looking forward. No matter what you are going through, rumors, mean people, or starting over in a new city just keep moving and everything will be alright. There is a line in Taylor’s new song that goes “But I keep cruising can’t stop, won’t stop moving. It’s like I got this music in my mind, saying it’s gonna be alright.” It’s my favorite line of all time. While it can be frustrating looking for a job and waiting for those better opportunities to show themselves, I have to keep pushing forward and shake off all the disappointments. I have listened to this song probably about 50 times now and even though her inspiration came from shaking off rumors and not letting them get to you I find myself connecting to this song in a different way.Īs you know I have recently moved to Charlotte in hopes of better opportunities (It’s already been a month! Wow). The new song “Shake It Off” is about how people (the media) can say all this stuff about you (Taylor) which may not be true but in the end it’s how you react to it that matters, so you just have to shake it off. If you have been living under a rock for the past couple days let me fill you in: Taylor Swift released her first single “Shake It Off,” on Monday, from her upcoming fifth album 1989. Yes, I am a Swiftie and you can imagine how excited I am for her new album.
